Plantation Shutter Window Cleaning Tips

plantationshuttersThere are plenty of good reasons why you should consider installing plantation shutters on your windows. Not only do they easily allow you to easily control natural light distribution, but they also enhance the overall aesthetics of any room. But not unlike everything else in your house, plantation shutters collect dust and have to subsequently be cleaned often.

The first thing you should do is open your shutters as widely as possible, giving you almost full access to the windows. We know it’s not possible to remove your plantation shutters every time you want to clean, nor do we recommend you attempt that. As long as you can swing the shutters open, you should have enough space to clean the glass.

Once the shutters are open, you will be more easily able to clean the area between the windows and the shutters. Depending on your home and how long it’s been since the last time you cleaned, you may find a fair amount of dust and debris. If possible, sweep this into a dust pan and then use a wet cloth to more thoroughly disinfect the area.

Next you’re going to want to clean the windows and the shutters themselves. For your windows, you a basic window cleaner and spray each section of the glass. After a few moments, wipe it off with a paper towel or cleaning rag. For the shutters, you can simply wipe them down with a dry cloth. Make sure you swipe the cloth in between every shutter before closing the window back up.
